On Sunday, April 21, Jan will hold a retreat in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Sponsored by Insight Meditation of Pioneer Valley, the retreat is called “Rethinking Thought.” We will be together from 9:30 to 4:30.
We are not our thoughts. But we often move through our lives as though we were. Thought happens, but we needn’t orient to it in an unfriendly way. We will explore ways to look at thought, to defuse its power to determine how life feels. This is a gentle practice, absent strain. It is radically freeing. When thought is seen for what it is, without engaging with it, we are able to sense the calm that is always with us. We sense the vastness rather than being caught up in the confines of the narrowly-defined person each of us appears to be.
The retreat will be held at Eastworks in Easthampton, Massachusetts, 116 Pleasant Street, in Suite 160 (the Event Center). Directions are here.
The suggested contribution for the day is $20-30, plus teacher dana (donation). Registration will take place by arriving 15 minutes before the retreat. There is no pre-registration by telephone or mail.
Registration contributions are applied to the administrative costs of running the meditation center. Participants are also asked to support the teachings by making a donation to the teacher. In case of financial difficulty, scholarships are available.
It is recommended that you bring a bag lunch so that your retreat is not disrupted. If you cannot bring your lunch, there are restaurants in Easthampton. (Following the link, scroll to near the bottom of the page for a list of restaurants.)
